An old friend has been doing business in Munich so I decided to hop on a train and head to Bavaria so we could go explore! After a day wandering around in Munich we decided to head to Fucking, Austria (yes… that’s really the name of the town). Along the way we drove past this little town that not only looked adorable but there were people dressed in Medieval costume. Of course we had to pull over and check it out!

The tiny streets of Burghausen are lined with colorful houses, art/antique shops and cafes with the castle looming overhead. As we took in all the old world style there were individuals, groups and even full families outfitted from head to toe with full Medieval costumes and gear. After doing some research I now know this is their annual Castle Festival where the town flashes back into the Middle Ages.

Burghausen is also known for it’s Castle as it is the longest in the world! We didn’t have time to go in and check it out but I loved the simplicity of it. They also have a huge Jazz Festival that started in the 1970s and their Street of Fame has plaques with the names of the legendary musicians who have played this festival over the years. I was definitely confused to be amid people of the Middle Ages and standing on a plaque with Chet Baker’s signature.

This is why I love road trips! You can stop along the way and have the opportunity to see things you didn’t even know you wanted to see. Great trip!
