Spring in Texas is absolutely beautiful and we took full advantage of the crisp temperatures, blue skies and sunny weather by exploring Hamilton Pool. This is by no means a hidden gem. We rolled up to the park in the afternoon and were turned away at the gate because they were too full. After riding around for ten minutes we decided to try again before finding another spot and they let us in… and told us we would be waiting in line for 45 minutes in the car. Since we had made the drive we decided to pull up and wait. It seems that anything that’s fantastic in Austin means you’ll be waiting in line.

About 30 minutes later we were ushered into a parking spot that had opened up and started to hike. After a short hike you come around a bend and see the most breathtaking site… limestone outcroppings with a waterfall spilling over into a blue green swimming hole. A few people, including my friend, were brave enough to endure the 60 degree water and jump in but it was way to cold for me. I just plopped myself down on the beach and enjoyed the view.

Hamilton Pool is part of the Travis County Park system in the hill country in Austin, Texas. It’s $15 per car to enter and like I said, there can be a wait but their website recommends that you call ahead and even make a reservation.
