Last Friday was my 42nd birthday and all I wanted was a chill weekend in the van, down by a river. We found the perfect spot in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho that allowed us to float in the river from town, right back to our campsite!

Lava Hot Springs itself was SO CROWDED!!! People here obviously haven’t read the news that covid is a thing, which is very scary. We avoided people, dropped in the water and then had a lovely float down the river.

Located between Salt Lake City and Yellowstone, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho is a cute small resort town that is popular year round.

John Hall and his wife Salina, along with five children, left England in 1883.  They sailed to America for the opportunity it held.  The family first resided in Oxford, Idaho.

In 1890 John Hall and his family moved to Lava Hot Springs, then called Dempsey, Idaho.  He filed for a homestead of 160 acres bordering the beautiful Portneuf River.

While here he observed many visitors to the hot springs pitching tents and camping in the area.  John Hall decided his homestead should be made into a city.
