Feeling a bit restless I decided to pack up my bike with minimal camping gear and ride about 10 miles from Braunschweig to a camping spot in Bettmar, Germany. This was to be my first long ride and solo camping trip so I was excited to be pushing my limits.
Luckily here in Germany there are tons of bike trails so you can avoid having to bike in the street. I mounted my Sony Action cam to my bike and set it up to take time lapse snaps along the way (video below). After cruising for about 2 hours I finally arrived at Waldsee Camping and got myself settled in.
Waldsee Camping is a small camping area next to a small lake and surrounded by woods. Most of the grounds are reserved for yearly garden houses and campers with an open field at the front (with hookups) and another next to the lake for tent camping. Of course I went with the view rather than the closeness to the bathroom… cause yeah… I can’t chill in my hammock with running generators and bathroom noises.
I thought I would have trouble sleeping. I pictured myself lying awake and wondering what this noise and that noise are… Serial killer? Bear? Ahhhhh… But luckily for me the lake was swarming with horny frogs who croaked loudly all day and night. They completely blocked out any other noise coming from the darkness. It was lovely.
I have to say my trip was a success… even if it was still chilly and started raining on me sleeping in my hammock the last night. Adventure!!!
